House Band Fall 2026 Auditions

Auditions for House Band will be held on September 5th from 1:30-4pm.
Below are our requirements for participation in our House Band. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

HOUSE BAND AUDITIONS

Student Eligibility To Audition:

Student must be an actively enrolled member of a school who meets these requirements: 

● Participated in at least 2 Performance Program show seasons with SoR 

● Enrolled for at least 6 months 

● Active participant in Performance Program 

● Minimum age of 13 years 

● You must be taking lessons on the instrument you audition with (You may audition on more than one instrument as long as you are taking lessons with us on each instrument)

○ Students can participate through the summer following their senior year of high school. 

○ Consideration will still be given for students who are over 18 during their senior year of high school.

Yes, we are looking for great players, but we are really looking for great band members. That means you’re reliable, accountable, helpful, and encouraging. You should have an exemplary attendance record (lessons and rehearsals). You must be available on weekends and through the summer.

***House Band rehearsal will be Saturdays from 2pm-4pm. The House Band season will run from September 2026-January 31st 2027***

House Band Code of Conduct:

  • House Band members represent our program both inside and outside of the school.

  • They will be an example and mentor to all students in our program.

  • They will treat all SoR staff with the utmost respect and will follow the direction they give to a superlative degree. Arguing, backtalk, and disrespect will not be tolerated and may result in immediate removal from House Band. 

  • Members are required to be enrolled in our regular season Performance Program during the duration of their tenure on House Band, from first wave casting through the performance.

  • All House Band members are required to be present for load-in, setup, soundcheck, teardown, and load-out at all gigs, including seasonal shows.

  • Each member must attend one weekly lesson at the school and one weekly rehearsal for a regular season show.

Audition Guidelines:

PART 1 - CLASSIC ROCK SONG

Student performs a one-minute segment of any song by Aretha Franklin, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi

Hendrix, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who,

or Tina Turner.

NO backing bands or accompanying players allowed (self-accompaniment is okay)

Playing along to a backing track is allowed for this portion of the audition

Vocalist’s backing track must be a karaoke version

PART 2 - SONG OF STUDENT’S CHOICE

Student performs a one-minute segment of any song of the student’s choosing

NO backing bands or accompanying players (self-accompaniment is okay)

NO backing tracks are allowed for this portion of the audition

PART 3 - THEORY / IMPROV

Student is asked to demonstrate applied knowledge of a couple musical concepts, such as:

●Improvising in a particular key or time signature

●Knowledge of intervals, chords, or harmony

●Applying a certain rudiment or technique to an improvisation

●Improvising in a certain genre or style
