80's UPDATE!
New parts have been added to the Best of the 80's Cast List! Check 'em out and come to rehearsal ready to play EVERYTHING.
House Band results
Congrats! This season will be an interesting challenge of figuring out all the unexpected details and chord voicings of these Beatles tunes, so you'll have to think outside the box. The cast list is posted. See you Tuesday at 5:30.
Songwriting update Feb 18th
I know today was filled with way more info than usual, but it was a good start. Please review that stuff with your teachers. Here's what you need to do this week. Pick one Beatles song, write out the chords, figure out the key and make sure you know which chords are interesting for some reason (they could modulate to another key, add some uncommon harmony, or even be voiced in an unexpected way).
Drummers should pick one Motown song and study where the fills and cymbal crashes are. Are they during an important line? End of a solo? Why were they played?!
Next Wednesday we'll take a look at the progressions you wrote tonight and attempt to build upon or tinker with them.
Also, you should start keeping notes of interesting riffs, melodies, progressions, and lyrical ideas. Keep a log of that stuff for easy access.

ALLSTAR AUDITIONS
Here are all the rules. Read them in full (they've changed since last year). AllStar Guidelines
One other new thing is that any student selected as our AllStar representatives will be required to participate in the Summer House Band (June-August).
Auditions will be held on Feb. 28th at 2pm. Sign up at the school.
Some updates on the Casting
Since Songwriting was a popular choice, some of you got your 2nd choice, but don't worry! We'll definitely do it again soon, so there will be another chance!
There are too many drummers in 80s, so you'll get no more than 3 songs. If you want more songs, switch to Black Sabbath!

You all have a lot of parts to get comfortable with. Remember, details are what make a song really come together! Your percussion and backup vocal parts are just as important as everything else.
Also, make sure you ask questions! Your teachers are amazing resources, use them.

I added all of the parts that were cast during last rehearsal and a few more here and there. This was to bring everyone up to the same amount of parts on their focused instrument(s). This is not counting keyboard, percussion or backup vocal parts.
Please look at the list thoroughly, including looking through the old songs. Some new parts have been added there as well as to the 3 new songs. I want to be sure that there are no surprises at our next rehearsal as far as what you are responsible for learning.

Halloween Party on Friday!
